TITANIUM DIOXIDE USP

Titanium Dioxide USP (United States Pharmacopeia) is a highly pure form of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) used in various applications, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food products. Here are some key points:

Purity: Contains not less than 99.0% and not more than 100.5% of titanium dioxide, calculated on a dried basis.

Appearance: White or almost white powder.

Solubility: Practically insoluble in water and dilute mineral acids, but dissolves slowly in hot concentrated sulfuric acid.

Applications: Used as a pigment, opacifier, and thickening agent in products like sunscreens, toothpaste, and food coloring.

Safety: The FDA requires that it contains no more than 10 ppm of lead, 2 ppm of antimony, and 1 ppm of mercury.
